Synopsis
After years of slapdash sequels and waning fandom, the Camp Miasma slasher franchise is handed over to an enthusiastic young director for resurrection. But when she visits the original’s star, a now-reclusive actress shrouded in mystery, the two women fall into a blood-soaked world of desire, fear, and delirium.
Our Review Editorial
A tired slasher franchise gets handed to a young director hungry to revive it, and her pilgrimage to the reclusive star of the original opens a door neither woman quite closes behind them. That is a wickedly good setup, part industry satire and part gothic two-hander, and the film seems to understand that the most interesting thing about horror sequels is the people who cannot let them go. Desire, fear, and delirium are promised in equal measure, and the title makes no apology for any of it.
This is for horror viewers who like their genre self-aware without being smug, and who enjoy a slasher more interested in obsession than body count. Expect a slow, humid build across its hour and fifty-two, with the strangeness thickening as the two women circle each other. Fans of meta-horror and of stories about fandom curdling into something else should find it a rich, lurid pleasure. A strong late-night choice with the lights off.
